In Kirghizia, a mountainous Central Asian country with four distinct seasons, we created a multifunctional sunroom that is both beautiful and functional. With harsh, snowy winters and sunny summers, the owner wanted a space that could be used comfortably year-round, enjoying natural light and protection from weather extremes, as well as for relaxation, meeting guests, and planting greenery.
The project was sited on the courtyard side of the house, adjacent to the main building, on a site that was originally level, but needed to be stabilized against seasonal permafrost. The surrounding environment is open and has excellent lighting conditions, but the design needs to focus on wind and snow protection in winter and ventilation and insulation in summer.
Our design is based on a modern minimalist style, using a high-strength aluminum alloy frame with double-layer insulated tempered glass, which not only ensures a lightweight structure, but also has excellent resistance to wind and snow. The sloped glass roof design allows snow to slide off and optimizes the angle of natural light. The interior is equipped with adjustable sunshade and ventilated skylight, realizing a comfortable experience of warmth in winter and coolness in summer. The aesthetic details are modern and echo the traditional architectural style of the area.
The finalized sunroom perfectly fulfills the owner’s expectations and becomes the core space for the family’s daily rest. Measurements show that the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor can reach more than 15℃ in winter, with energy consumption lower than expected; in summer, the ventilation system effectively avoids the problem of high temperature and stuffy heat. From the precise CAD design to the construction landing, the project realized zero error, and the actual effect is highly consistent with the translucent light and shadow atmosphere in the rendering, creating a truly comfortable and practical natural living space for the owners.
